My friends
and I arrived at the arena (capacity 600 people) at around
7pm, sitting outside drinking some beers. The doors opened
at 8 o'clock and the support band, fuel 238, entered the scene
at around 9pm. They have already been well described in other
reviews, so I'll skip that and go straight forward to what
all you silverchair-fans want to hear!
The scene
lights went off, the neon lights went on, the 600 people went
crazy and in came silverchair. They started off with a pretty
good version of "Emotion Sickness" and without holding
any breaks they went straight into "Israel's Son."
After this Daniel said "Thank you, Copenhagen" with
a cool accent.
He quickly
switched guitar and soon the smashing intro-chords of "Slave"
hit the arena. People went nuts, especially at the end were
silverchair jammed a very hard/groovy metal thing, really
brilliant and catchy. Hereafter they turned over in a normal
version of "Abuse Me," a really crowd pleaser.
After
this Daniel said something about this place we have in Copenhagen,
called "Christiania" where they sell pot and marijuana,
a quite cosy place actually. And please don't get me wrong
here, that place is not all drugs, it's also a community of
free-living hippies. Yeah right :-)
After
two good versions of "Pure Massacre" (really heavy
put-ins) and "Ana's song," Daniel started talking
about believing in God and Satan. I actually think believing
in aliens won that race. After this they played "Suicidal
Dream" (always good) and then "Point Of View."
Hereafter
Daniel said something like "I hope you like our new songs,
this one is new too" and he went into playing the beautiful
guitar intro from "Paint Pastel Princess."
"Madman"
was next, truly the most heaviest time I've ever heard it.
Daniel didn't play the "solo," just some really
deep drop D-chords. Ben and Chris now left the stage for a
solo-performance by Daniel playing a bit boring version of
"Tomorrow" (in my opinion). I hope they turn back
to play that song as a band again, it's way better like that!
Up next,
came "The Door," where after Daniel introduced Sam
Holloway (the keyboard-player) as being the biggest musical
genious in the whole world, getting us to yell "Sam,
Sam…" Daniel also said something about Sam guest-starring
in the Letterman-show along with Paul Schaffer and the rest
of the guys.
Next came
"Freak," including Daniel yelling "fucking
jump!" between the verse and the chorus. Of course silverchair
did that thing, getting the audience to sing "body and
soul......I'm a FREAAAKKK!!!" around 10 times or so.
The solo pretty much got trashed the same way as in Madman,
but it sounded really good.
Somewhere
between 2 songs Daniel also got us to sing "hallelujah,"
actually he didn't. He got us to scream "HALLELUJAH!!!"
which totally turned my lungs inside out. He also did all
those weird hand movements, which looked really cool.
The next
song was "Anthem 2000," including the crowd singing
"We are the youth!" at least 15 times. The song
was one of the highlights of the night. You could really see
the differences between some of the other new songs and this
one (caused by the music video being aired all the time, of
course!)
silverchair
now left the stage, leaving the crowd screaming and yelling
for them to come back. And so they did, with "Dearest
Helpless" and "No association." After this
they left the stage for good, kind of leaving me and my friends
behind hoping for them to play Spawn Again, but they didn't.
Really sad, because I know they are doing it once in a while,
but unfortunately I'll just have to wait until next time.
All in
all, the show was amazing and definitely worth the money (as
you didn't already know that):-) just kidding! Take care out
there, and thank you silverchair for being such a great ROCK
BAND, my favourite band alive! |
