BIG WEEK AHEAD FOR CHAIR FANS

It’s going to be a busy week for Australian Silverchair fans.

The band’s long awaited new album – Young Modern – hits stores on Saturday morning on the back of today’s news that its lead single “Straight Lines” has stayed at #1 on the national charts for a second consecutive week.

Triple J have announced that Young Modern will be their feature album throughout this week and even though it’s yet to be released the disc is already #1 on the iTunes charts based on pre-orders alone.

On Friday night the group will launch Young Modern with a very special live show in Sydney. From 6.30pm this Sunday that gig will be broadcast live across Australia on the Nova radio network as follows.

Nova 969 Sydney www.nova969.com.au
Nova 100 Melbourne www.nova100.com.au
Nova 1069 Brisbane www.nova1069.com.au
Nova 919 Adelaide www.nova919.com.au
Nova 937 Perth www.nova937.com.au

Later that night Silverchair will perform live on the premiere edition of Channel 10’s new Sunday edition of “Rove” which starts at 8.30pm.

Then at noon on Monday April 2 tickets will finally go onsale to the general public for the group’s brief and intimate “Young Modern Tour”. Dates and venues for those shows are listed on the Tours section.

All shows will go onsale to the general public at noon on April 2nd. A reminder that special arrangements have been put in place to provide a limited allocation of tickets for chairpage viewers and members of the chairpage mailing list from 9am to 12 noon EST Friday March 30 from the Silverchair online ticketing store - http://silverchair.oztix.com.au.

"SILVERCHAIR STILL YOUNG STILL MODERN" - BEAT MAGAZINE - MARCH 21, 2007

Silverchair features in this week's Beat Magazine with a cover story well worth the read.

********************************************************************************************
By Nick Snelling

I am hoping for violence. A juicy story detailing some inter-band punch-up. The tearful revelation of a physical abuse at the hands of a coke-fiend manager. The brutal attack of some windmilling Novocastrian thug, out to settle an old score. Or the tale of Natalie Imbruglia, in the grip of a jealous rage, slogging him one. Any salacious piece of gossip, really, behind the fact that Daniel Johns, lead singer, guitarist and songwriter for Newcastle megastars Silverchair, is sporting one hell of a shiner in the latest promo shot. “Ahhh, that…” he gives a mischievous laugh. “It’s actually make-up. We got bored in the photo-shoot, so I asked if they had anything that would look like a black eye.” Oh, I say. How disappointing. “Nothing controversial, I’m afraid,” he apologises, amused. “We can come up with a story if you like?” One step ahead of you there, Daniel…

Johns sounds relaxed, happy to be discussing the new album Young Modern. And so he should. Not only have the last few weeks seen the first single Straight Lines dominate charts and radio playlists alike, but headline slots on a string of Australian festivals paired with sold-out showcase concerts in the US, mean everything appears in place for Silverchair’s latest renaissance. While proud and enthusiastic about the result of three and half months in an LA studio, Johns says it was a stressful time. Beyond his skittish temperament, was there a particular reason?

STRAIGHT LINES UP IN NEW ZEALAND

Silverchair’s “Straight Lines” is rocketing up the New Zealand charts with the song jumping from #36 to #14 on that country’s Hottest 100 this week. The band hopes to get back across the Tasman over the coming months.

CHAIR TOPS CHARTS

Silverchair have scored their first #1 on the Australian singles charts in over a decade with today's chart topping debut of their new release "Straight Lines".

It's only the group's third #1 single in Australia (alongside 1995's "Tomorrow" and 1997's "Freak") and it's already been certified gold. This makes Silverchair the first aussie band since The Easybeats and The Seekers in the 1960's to have 3 #1 singles.

"Straight Lines" is the first taste of the trio's highly anticipated album YOUNG MODERN which hits stores on Saturday March 31.

Two days after that release tickets will go onsale for a handful of unusually intimate Australian gigs to help launch the disc.

Tickets for these shows go onsale to the general public at noon on April 2 (although the Maitland festival is already onsale).

If you want to experience Silverchair live before this tour you may want to check out a special live set to be broadcast on the Nova radio network from 6.00pm to 7.00pm on Sunday April 1 and/or the band's appearance later that same night on the premiere of network 10's new "Rove" TV show.

Alternatively, later in April you could visit the tiny NSW town of Cowra who last week won the right to stage an exclusive Silverchair show as part of Triple J's "One Night Stand" promotion.

In the leadup to the March 31 release of their new album Young Modern, Silverchair has announced that they will perform a handful of special Australian gigs in late April and early May. All shows will go onsale to the general public at noon on April 2nd. Given the relatively intimate nature of these venues tickets are expected to sell out quickly so special arrangements have been put in place to provide a limited allocation of tickets for chairpage viewers and members of the chairpage mailing list from 9am to 12 noon EST Friday March 30 from the Silverchair online ticketing store - http://silverchair.oztix.com.au/.

Silverchair is currently riding on a high with their new single “Straight Lines” being Australia’s #1 most downloaded song over the last couple of weeks. The CD single was released last weekend so will debut on next week’s chart. The track is enjoying the strongest airplay of the group’s career making Young Modern Australia’s most anticipated album.

In other Silverchair news, the band will be the musical guests for the first edition of the new Rove when it premieres in its new timeslot on Channel 10 at 8.30pm on Sunday April 1. Contrary to internet rumours, the legendary Seekers vocalist Judith Durham will not be joining the trio on this show. However Ms Durham does provide some memorable guest vocals on new a song called “English Garden” which will be available as a bonus track with the iTunes edition of Young Modern.

MYSPACE WINNER OF SILVERCHAIR VIDEO COMPETITION ANNOUNCED

MySpace.com today announced the winner of its latest competition, in which users were given the chance to direct a Silverchair video. People were able to make their own video for the bands recently released single "Straight Lines" and share it with the world.

The initiative is an Australian first in online and music interaction.

Over 78 videos were posted online, using unedited footage of the band performing Straight Lines, the first single and video from the band’s eagerly awaited new album, Young Modern. They then edited together the coolest video possible using the tools provided online.

The top five videos were determined by the most number of views made by fellow MySpace users. In total, the videos attracted more than 1.8 million views.

The members of Silverchair had the final say on the winner, Tani Budini, from Queensland.

Budini’s video was aired on Australia’s number one music television show, Video Hits (Channel Ten) today. She will be presented with a signed gold album plaque as well as a copy of the band’s new album, Young Modern, which is released nationally on March 31.

To watch the winning video online check out Silverchair's MySpace.
