SILVERCHAIR - LIVE FROM FARAWAY STABLES
On Saturday April 19, 2003 Silverchair brought the "Across The Night" tour to their hometown of Newcastle, NSW Australia.
The concert was staged in the ornate and venerable Newcastle Civic Theatre - within walking distance of the band's birthplace. Surrounded by friends and family the group finally got to perform songs from their landmark album "Diorama" as well as a selection of earlier works.
Tickets for this unusually intimate show had sold out in less than ten minutes and could not be bought at any price.
As with all the dates on this special tour, Silverchair staged the concert over two separate acts. The first showcased mainly quieter and more experimental material while the second consisted of the heavier rock songs on which the band had built their reputation as an incendiary live act.
This unique double album is now available through i-Tunes!

SILVERCHAIR MAKE CHART HISTORY
Silverchair made music history today with the chart topping debut of their new release Young Modern. They have become the first Australian band to ever have five #1 albums.
This eclipses the achievements of Cold Chisel and Midnight Oil who each enjoyed four Australian #1’s over the course of their extraordinary careers. A number of other legendary Aussie bands have had three #1’s including INXS, Crowded House, Powderfinger and AC/DC.
It’s also Silverchair’s fifth consecutive #1 debut – a feat that’s obviously also unmatched by any other group.
In more good chart news, their single “Straight Lines” remained at #1 on the national singles chart for the fourth consecutive week. Both releases have already been certified platinum.
“We’re overwhelmed by the reaction we’ve had to Young Modern”, said Silverchair’s singer/guitarist/songwriter Daniel Johns. “It’s been a long time since we’ve released a new album and we put a lot of time into making this one so we’re really grateful that it’s getting embraced in such a big way. Ben and Chris and I would like to thank everyone who’s helped make it all happen.”
In addition to its commercial success, Young Modern, has also been warmly received by the critics with a raft of four and five star reviews around the country. Rolling Stone Magazine called it “a towering triumph”, Drum Media said it’s “a melodic powerhouse” and the Sunday Herald-Sun described it as “Silverchair’s Masterpiece”.
Tickets for Silverchair’s Young Modern Tour sold out in a heartbeat last week although some tickets do remain for the band’s appearance at a festival in Maitland NSW on May 12th.

The launch event came on the eve of the release of their fifth studio album ‘Young Modern’ which hit stores last Saturday. At that special show the band gave over 1000 enthusiastic ‘chair devotees a memorable taste of what is to come on their national tour.

Silverchair have firmly established themselves as one of Australia’s finest bands and this rockin’ 90 minute special showcases the boys renewed enthusiasm for live performance. Only on Channel [V] will you see the complete set as they perform songs from their new album along with loads of classic tracks spanning their 12 year career.
whatUwant host James Kerley catches up with Daniel, Ben and Chris before the gig to get the low down on the new album, what it’s like to be back on top of the charts after their five year hiatus and Paul Mac’s influence on the new record.
The launch event topped off an exciting couple of weeks for Silverchair, with the first track lifted from the album, ‘Straight Lines’, debuting at #1, their first single to do so in over a decade. It’s still at the top of the charts after three weeks.
