POWDERFINGER AND SILVERCHAIR TO EMBARK ON AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST NATIONAL TOUR – ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE!
After weeks of speculation, theorising and a bunch of hearsay, Australia’s two biggest rock bands – POWDERFINGER and SILVERCHAIR - have today officially announced extensive plans to stage a major co-headline national concert tour.
ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE will bridge the gap between the country and the big smoke with a rock & roll tour on a scale unseen in Australian music for decades. POWDERFINGER and SILVERCHAIR will roll into every capital city plus 14 regional centres right across the nation.
Months in the planning, ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE kicks off at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in SILVERCHAIR’s hometown on August 29, and then moves to POWDERFINGER’s backyard, the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on August 31.
From there, the two chart-topping bands will take their show on the road for over two months, performing in locations as distant and diverse as Darwin and Hobart, Cairns and Mildura, Toowoomba and Bendigo … across the Great Divide and beyond.
In those cities which don’t have sufficiently large indoor venues, the bands will erect a large custom designed tent in which to stage the shows.
The humongous Spring tour is an opportunity for literally hundreds of thousands of Aussie fans to partake in what will be a huge event in every location it visits. Most regional centres on the expansive itinerary won’t have seen a rock & roll show like this since tours by the likes of Midnight Oil and INXS in the 1980s.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public at 9am on July 9. There will also be special presales for the members of both bands’ fanclubs plus an exclusive presale for Visa Card holders from 9am on July 2 through 5pm on July 3 (ticketing info. available shortly).
Full press release available here.

We are very pleased to tell the world that from tomorrow afternoon (AEST) Friday June 8 you can watch the BRAND NEW Silverchair video right here!
“REFLECTIONS OF A SOUND” is the second single from Silverchair's #1 album “Young Modern”.
The clip was recently filmed on set in Queensland. Make it your business to hit this very space tomorrow to check it out!
Silverchair has announced their first full North American tour since 1999. The dates will be in support of the band’s new album Young Modern which will street on July 24 in the US and Canada on Eleven: a music company through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group.
In spite of the band’s long leave of absence they recently sold out some New York, Los Angeles and Toronto shows within minutes. This phenomenal response drew a full page feature in the LA Times Calendar section and lead the LA Weekly to declare that "Silverchair have burrowed into a ‘career band niche’ … thriving on quality songwriting and authentic delivery".
Since exploding to prominence in the mid-90’s Silverchair has morphed into a much more melodic and idiosyncratic band than they were as teenagers. They are currently riding the crest of a wave in Australia with Young Modern becoming the fastest selling and most critically acclaimed album of their career to date. It was certified double platinum in their homeland after just one month.
Young Modern sees Silverchair pushing their collective envelope by combining an eclectic mix of pop sensibilities and melodic indie rock with some epic orchestral flourished by legendary Beach Boys collaborator Van Dyke Parks.

In addition to their own headline tour Silverchair will also make a mainstage appearance at the 30,000-capacity Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago on 4th August alongside Arcade Fire, Bright Eyes and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
Quite frankly, the facts speak for themselves.
Young Modern is Silverchair's fifth consecutive #1 Album in Australia. They’ve had more number 1 albums in their homeland than any other Aussie band in history (Midnight Oil had four, INXS and AC/DC had three). Rolling Stone magazine has called their new album a "towering triumph” and the lead track Straight Lines spent four weeks at #1 making it Silverchair's biggest hit since their breakthrough single Tomorrow back in 1995.
There will be a announcement made next Tuesday, June 12, for a huge aussie tour scheduled for later this year. We'll have the full schedule along with ticket purchase info.
In other news we'll premiere the recently completed Reflections Of A Sound music video also next week. Stay tuned!
Silverchair have signed with Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group to release their fifth studio album, Young Modern, in North America on July 24th 2007. The album will come out on Eleven: a music company, in association with Warner Music Group.
The band is already confirmed for a mainstage appearance on Lollapalooza on Saturday August 4th in Chicago but they also have plans for a full North American tour this July and August. Dates will be announced shortly. While they played a handful of acclaimed, sold out shows in New York, LA and Toronto earlier this year, the forthcoming dates will be their first full tour of the U.S. and Canada since 1999.
Young Modern is the fastest seller of Silverchair's career having been certified double platinum in less than a month.
You can view a sneak peak of Silverchair's performance at the recent Triple J “One Night Stand” show in Cowra, N.S.W. JTV's website has footage of "Young Modern Station" - the killer opening track from the #1 album "Young Modern". You can also check out the guys being interviewed on JTV as well!
The concert will be broadcast in full on the ABC network in July. We will supply more details as they come to hand!
2007 Jack Awards were held at Sydney’s Luna Park last night. We are more than chuffed to report that Silverchair were winners!
On the back of Silverchair’s fifth #1 album “Young Modern” Daniel Johns was crowned “Best Male Performer” and Ben Gillies took home the award for “Best Drummer”. Both accepted their awards via video link up. Silverchair are currently on location shooting a film clip for their next single from “Young Modern”.
