Silverchair’s “Straight Lines” is rocketing up the New Zealand charts with the song jumping from #36 to #14 on that country’s Hottest 100 this week. The band hopes to get back across the Tasman over the coming months.
Silverchair have scored their first #1 on the Australian singles charts in over a decade with today's chart topping debut of their new release "Straight Lines".
It's only the group's third #1 single in Australia (alongside 1995's "Tomorrow" and 1997's "Freak") and it's already been certified gold. This makes Silverchair the first aussie band since The Easybeats and The Seekers in the 1960's to have 3 #1 singles.
"Straight Lines" is the first taste of the trio's highly anticipated album YOUNG MODERN which hits stores on Saturday March 31.
Two days after that release tickets will go onsale for a handful of unusually intimate Australian gigs to help launch the disc.
Tickets for these shows go onsale to the general public at noon on April 2 (although the Maitland festival is already onsale).
If you want to experience Silverchair live before this tour you may want to check out a special live set to be broadcast on the Nova radio network from 6.00pm to 7.00pm on Sunday April 1 and/or the band's appearance later that same night on the premiere of network 10's new "Rove" TV show.
Alternatively, later in April you could visit the tiny NSW town of Cowra who last week won the right to stage an exclusive Silverchair show as part of Triple J's "One Night Stand" promotion.
In the leadup to the March 31 release of their new album Young Modern, Silverchair has announced that they will perform a handful of special Australian gigs in late April and early May. While the band has headlined major festivals like Homebake and Pyramid Festival over the last year, the “Young Modern Tour” will be the trio’s first indoor concerts in their homeland for nearly 4 years.
All shows will go onsale to the general public at noon on April 2nd. Given the relatively intimate nature of these venues tickets are expected to sell out quickly so special arrangements have been put in place to provide a limited allocation of tickets for chairpage viewers and members of the chairpage mailing list from 9am to 12 noon EST Friday March 30 from the Silverchair online ticketing store - http://silverchair.oztix.com.au/.
Special guests on all shows will be acclaimed Sydney indie band Dappled Cities Fly. Details are as follows:
Sun 6 May - Metropolis Fremantle (18+)

Wed 9 May - Enmore Theatre Sydney (Licensed & All Ages)
Tickets available from http://www.chairpage.com/, Enmore Theatre Box Office (02) & Ticketek 132 849 http://www.ticketek.com.au/
IMPORTANT NOTE - To gain access for this Silverchair show at the Enmore you will need a Ticketek / venue box office printed ticket to enter. Once you have purchased your ticket from Oztix you can take your receipt at any time between time of purchase and the night of the show to the Enmore Theatre box office to collect your entry to show ticket. We advise that you do this prior to the show night to avoid any delays.
