Silverchair's Daniel Johns Reveals His Battle With Anorexia

Silverchair's new single Ana's Song (Open Fire) sounds like a romantic ballad, but it's actually one of the darker tracks on the band's new album, Neon Ballroom.

As lead singer and songwriter Daniel Johns revealed to MTV News' John Norris, the song reflects Johns' recent stint in psychotherapy to treat what he says was his depression and paranoia as well as a debilitating eating disorder (a rarity in men) that had him wasting away. The "Ana" in the title, Johns explained, refers to anorexia.

Daniel Johns:
"This song is basically about not so much being in love with a psychological disorder, but hiding behind it," Johns told MTV News. "'Ana' just uses a metaphor and kind of uses a name for a composite of people just hiding behind an eating disorder."

We'll have more from Daniel Johns on his struggle with anorexia on this week's "MTV News 1515" which begins airing on Friday night at 7:30.
